Baby Dragon ™ Shantung Maple

A dwarf shantung with 1 inch leaves; displays spreading to weeping habit; thrives in Texas sun; produces orange to red new growth continuously over mature light green leaves in spring and summer; superb red, orange, gold, and yellow fall colors (sometimes green leaves are still mixed in during fall colors); attracts hummingbirds. Grows to 10 feet tall by 10 feet wide. A Metro Maples discovery introduced October 2012. Federally registered and patent pending (Patent #26,612).

Leaves are pink when new, but quickly turn green. New leaves will continue to appear at the tips of the branches throughout the growing season.

This ‘Baby Dragon’ was grafted in 2010 and has been pruned and ecouraged to grow tall — it’s now about 12’ tall.  Without help, they’ll peak at 8-10’ tall.
